Established in 1982, the affiliation with AUBMC entails joint postgraduate residency training programs in four clinical specialities: Obstetrics/Gynecology (1983), Pediatrics (1984), Internal Medicine (1985), and General Surgery (1997). Trainees in these fields do clinical clerkship rotations in various departmental services at MGH and AUBMC following which they receive an official certificate (signed by AUB Dean of Medical School and MGH authorities) that is recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Health. A fraction of their training is spent at AUBMC in formal or elective rotations. Passing the International Foundations of Medicine (IFOM) examination is a prerequisite for acceptance in these programs. On average, 14 residents graduate every year from all four programs. Graduates have the opportunity to pursue their fellowship training at AUBMC or elsewhere. In recent years, AUB medical students and trainees started rotating in two MGH medical wards in the Department of Internal Medicine under the direct supervision of MGH and AUBMC staff physicians. MGH staff physicians who are involved in training AUBMC medical students/housestaff are granted clinical associate titles by AUBMC.
